What after B.tech ??

Just like every graduating engineer , the very thought came to my mind - What after B.tech ??

And options are always there ....but choosing one is difficult.........WHY ??
bcoz we want THE BEST.......so that you , your friends or parents can't complain later ..
as your parents are expecting something good from you after you graduate .

Oh yes..... , the following options came to m mind :-

1) JOB in IT sector

It is the first thing anyone will think of.....after all this is what we will do in the end.....
Graduating from a private engineering college (though affiliated to state university)...where being placed was a bigger concern rather than being placed "where"......on campus job opportunities were limited to IT sector.....whereas for so called "core" companies...neither i had extraordinary skills nor a good percentage....

hmm..IT sector ?? i asked myself.....but then there wasn't a option.....
i was reluctant as the only subject i had ever failed in , was computer science...it wasnt like that i didn't like coding or programming....but i knew my basics were weak...and i was not , as they say , "passionate" to study it again for placements.......
By that time , it was known that INFOSYS...(karta dharta of our college :P ) didn't conduct a technical test (till 2012 i suppose)....and the fact that it is a mass recruiter....and also that it recruited 300/450 students from our previous batch......i was then confident of my placement....

2) POST GRADUATION

For PG , one may think of :-
  • MS
  • MBA
  • M.Tech

For MS , one would have prepare for GRE , and particularly the vocabulary part . Also MS would cost you atleast 20-25 lakhs, which was not affordable for me . Hence MS was out of the equation.

For MBA , one would have to prepare for CAT . But then , few dialogues from "3 idiots" , were enough to make me think not to opt for MBA :P ....Jokes apart...i didnt have much inclination towards MBA then .

For M.tech , one would have to prepare for GATE . I had some inclination towards it as , one while preparing for GATE , i would be studying some important subjects of ECE ( which i hadnt studied properly earlier in 2nd or 3rd year )...two , clearing GATE  gives you an opportunity to study in IITs...(something almost everyone want to ) and hence get better placements esp in core companies like
  •  Intel
  •  Apple
  •  Qualcomm
  •  Texas Instruments
  •  ST Microelectronics and others

3) SABKI PYAARI , SARKARI NAUKRI

One may not like to go to government schools and hospitals , don't want to travel in govt transport - buses , trains ...but when it comes to GOVT JOB ,  we all want to have it.
REASON ?? Biggest one - Job Security and other numerous benefits .

following PSUs recruit EC Engineers :-

  • BEL
  • SAIL
  • ONGC
  • NTPC
  • NALCO
  • DMRC
  • HPCL
  • BSNL/MTNL
  • PRASAR BHARTI
  • ECIL
 and other institutions like :-
  • ISRO
  • BARC

 and of course

  • ENGINEERING SERVICES EXAMINATION

The preparation , more or less remains same for PSUs , as it is for GATE , Except General studies , english and current affairs being the other topics to be prepared .

Also by 2013 , it was known that major PSUs will recruit using a standardized mechanism , by using GATE scores .Hence i chose to prepare for GATE and PSU exams , with an aim of getting a good job.

Advantage :- with one good score , you can have many opportunities in different PSUs , and have an option of choosing one according to your comfort.

Disadvantage :- One bad day and you'll miss many opportunities altogether .

THANK YOU :)
